How do I obtain an e-mail account?
  • Undergraduate students should contact their lecturer.
  • Postgraduate students should contact their school postgraduate coordinator or supervisor.
  • Staff should contact PC Support, preferably through your local computer person or school secretary. See also the Internet Access page.

    How do I get help from the PC Support team?
    Your friendly PC Support Team can be contacted by e-mail pc-support@fhs.usyd.edu.au, or phone x19306 (Bala) or x19363 (Michael). See our Staff Contact Details page.

    How do I connect my computer to the Campus network?
    You need to contact the PC Support team (above). Furthermore you will need;
  • an Ethernet network adapter and cable
  • an existing network port to plug your computer into - these can be obtained by a Maintenance Requisition to the Building & Grounds Division to be allocated an IP address by the Network Manager
  • Once connected the PC Support team can install common Internet software: Eudora for e-mail, Netscape for browsing the Web, etc.

    Can I use the "Leave Mail on Server" feature of my email program?
    Yes, but make sure that this feature is not enabled on another computer you use to check your email. That way messages that are left on the server will eventually be deleted. It is also strongly recommended that you enable the "Delete Messages from Server After 7 days" feature.

    How do I send a email to all staff at the Cumberland Campus?
    Send your email to <allstaff@fhs.usyd.edu.au>. Only members of this mailing list are allowed to send to the list.

    How do I send an e-mail to all academics at the Cumberland Campus?
    You can't. Use the "allstaff" list mentioned above, and make the intended audience clear in the subject line or the very beginning of the message.

    How do I send an e-mail message to all staff in the Faculty of Health Sciences?
    You can't. However you can use the "allstaff" list mentioned above. Be sure to clearly describe the purpose of the email in the Subject Line.

    How do I open an attachment in Eudora?
  • Open the appropriate program to access the file (e.g. Word or Excel)
  • Using the File Menu, select 'Open'
  • Navigate to the folder/directory that contains the file.
  • Select the find the file (highlight it) and open it by clicking on the Open or OK button.
  • The attachment will be stored in the folder/directory that your attachments always go into -- this is configured in Eudora.

    How do I make vacation message setup instruction

  • Open Faculty Health Sciences home web page (http://www.fhs.usyd.edu.au) either from Netscape Browser or Internet Explorer.
  • Click on Staff E-mail, CommuniGate Pro web mail log in page will come up.
  • Type your email login name and password which is the same with your Eudora login name and password.
  • From CommunicaGate web page click on “RULES”, at the vacation message box type the message would like to put, and then click on “update”.

    How can I search the University of Sydney electronic databases and e-journals from my computer at home?
    Students can now access and search selected e-journals and databases from remote locations using a dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP) other than the University of Sydney without having to apply for a login and password. Follow the configuration and access instruction provided at: http://www.library.usyd.edu.au/Databases/wam.html
