Megan Bevis(HIM Honours 2003) has had a paper accepted for presentation
at HIC 2004 in Brisbane, 25-27th July. (Patient attitudes towards
the use of electronic health records in general practice. M.Bevis & J.Callen).
The paper presents results of Megan's honours thesis regarding patient's
attitudes towards the use of electronic health records in general practice.
The research aim was to investigate: 1. how patients felt that computer
use by the GP during consultation effects doctor-patient communication and
the
quality of medical care, and 2. whether patients considered that such
computer use benefits and facilitates the consultation process. Results suggested
that
computers were generally well received by patients and had a positive
impact on doctor-patient communication and the quality of care given.
