Dr Hettiaratchi retired from the school, and returned in the capacity of an honorary lecturer.
Dr Hettiaratchi and his colleagues have been developing the Virtual Teaching Hospital, a teaching tool which has been funded by a number of different grants. This project was the Faculty of Health Sciences 1995 in Teaching Award for innovation, development or activity in teaching leading to a significant enhancement of student learning. The project has received favourable reviews in a number of publications, including The University of Sydney News, Campus Review, the report of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, 1994, the Australian Financial Review, and the Higher Education supplement of the Australian newspaper.
