Metabolic Acidosis
Due to a dceease in plasma [HCO3-]
Caused by:
- increased biosynthesis of metabolic acids such as ketone bodies eg in diabetes
- excessive loss of HCO3- caused by diarrrhea
- Decreased excretion of H+ by the kidneys resulting from kiney failure or an impaired ability to generate NH3 for excretion of NH4+
