Dr Patricia Weerakoon is the academic coordinator of the new Graduate Program in Sexual Health. This highly innovative and globally relevant course is offered in a blended e-learning in a flexible distance mode.

Her primary research interest is in the area of sexuality and sexual health. She is the recipient of many teaching development grants for human sexuality and has presented papers on the topic of sexuality at both international and national conferences.

Patricia facilitates a “Sexuality Research Group” of students, staff and external researchers in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The aim of this group is to provide a forum for the nurturing of research student’s ideas and progress as well as the discussion of new and innovative research in sexuality and sexual health. You are welcome to contact Patricia if you would like to be informed of the activities of the group.

Patricia teaches in many of the other units offered by the School. Her training enables her to offer clinically relevant course units in human biology to students in the Rehabilitation Counseling, Leisure and Health and Aboriginal Health professions.

Dr Weerakoon has recently extended her research to the study of student learning in a flexible on-line environment, especially in the area of sexuality education, in which she also coordinates a highly popular on-line faculty elective “Sexuality for Health Professionals” (BIOS 4035).

Dr Weerakoon is a member of the International Academy of Sex Research and the Australian Society of Sexuality Educators, Researchers and Therapists.

Dr Weerakoon serves as a faculty member of the Centre for Apologetic Scholarship and Education (CASE), an activity of New College at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.

Patricia participated in Agony Aunts, a program hosted by Clive Robertson on ABC TV. Patricia teamed up with financial guru Sally Wilson to help floundering baby boomers get their lives back on track.
