About Us
The Australian Stuttering Research Centre (ASRC) was established in 1996 in the
Faculty of Health Sciences (Cumberland Campus), The University of Sydney. The purpose
of the ASRC is to establish and disseminate knowledge about stuttering
and its treatment.
Research at the ASRC is facilitated by a close
collaborative relationship with the Stuttering Unit within the Bankstown
Health Service which is a specialist treatment facility located nearby.
As well as collaborating in research, the ASRC and
the Stuttering Unit along with Macquarie University conduct a program of Continuing Professional
Education in Stuttering.
In addition to our premises at Lidcombe,
Sydney, the ASRC has staff in three clinical research sites in Australia,
all within the public health system: the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney,
the Lower North Shore Child and Family Health Centre, Sydney, and
Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital, Perth.
Additionally, the ASRC has international clinical research collaborations with
The Fluency Centre in Montreal, and the Stuttering Treatment and
Research Trust in Auckland, New Zealand.
The ASRC also has close collaborative links with staff in speech pathology professional
preparation programs in Australia, including
the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Faculty of Health Sciences, The University
of Sydney, Macquarie University, the University of Newcastle, La Trobe University, and Charles Sturt University.
